Although I have owned them for more than 10 years, I never ran these on my Marklin system because that was digital, and I think these are analogue. The two passenger cars have bulb lighting, which I think prevents use on digital because LEDs are more appropriate due to current draw. Taking the photos for this listing is the first time I’ve seen the lights working, and no problems arisen. The lighting for this listing worked with the control unit using a/c settings. I would expect conversion to LED for digital use is quite straightforward – if only maplin were still alive!
They are in good condition for their age, and the only clue I have is that the two passenger coaches have not got the inner packaging in the (rather battered) boxes, but they were wrapped in contemporary German newspaper dated Saturday 16 July 1988, so they’re obviously older than that! Despite this, as you can see in the photos, the lighting works as it should, and gives a classy effect, especially through the clerestorey roofs.
All doors operate – even the loo doors!
