SOUTHERN RAILWAY 8 PLANK OPEN GOODS WAGONThese 12 ton wagons were built in the 1920’s and were used well into the 1930’s and further. The model is finished in the SR goods stock brown and was the colour used by the LSWR. Sometimes described as ‘Pullman Brown’ which was almost identical. The body, headstocks and sole bars were brown. The buffing gear was black but sometimes brown when repainted. Everything below the sole bars was black. There is a picture of one of these wagons on Page 29, in “An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons Volume 4 compiled by G. Bixley, A. Blackburn, R. Chorley and M. King; Published by OPC.The brown on the model is darker than the photos and is one of the Phoenix Precision paints range of authentic railway colours. Smith’s 3 link couplings, MayGib pinpoint wheels and a wood load secured with model roping from a model boat supplier; .25mm equivalent of 1 1/2 inch rope or 3.7cm. Suitable cotton would have done!
