This is my Silver Fox Irish Rail Suburban Mark 3 control car coach number 6104. It is in the original box, complete with Silver Fox’s certificate of authenticity.
In good condition, it has been little used – see photos. It is fitted with standard tension lock coupling at the rear. There is no coupling at the front as it has a skirt at that end – again see photos.
I hope to be selling various other items of Irish railway stock over the next few weeks. I am also listing two other Silver Fox Mark 3 suburban coaches.
The second batch of Mark 3 coaches were built at Inchicore works and was made up of 19 standard coaches and 5 control cars. Irish Rail had bought the jigs for the coaches from BREL and used them to depart from the standard Mark 3 layout. Unlike the first batch, these 24 “Suburban” coaches were not air conditioned, but instead fitted with four hopper windows on each side. This may have been an acknowledgement that the Irish climate rarely necessitates air conditioning for short journeys. The design of the cab end is an original IR design. Power supply for heating and lighting came from generator sets installed under the floor. The suburban coaches later appeared in I livery and remained in use until 2008. After the Mark 3 sets were replaced by railcars 6104 was scrapped.
The IR liveried sets were generally used on Dublin suburban services through Connolly station and powered by 121 class locos.
Later the normally push-pull sets would occasionally be used on other routes as hauled coaches. This was generally when they had I livery, so my model IR Control Car never had a coupling at the cab end for hauled use.
This model shows the original IR livery.The model comes in its original box. It is fitted with a standard tension lock coupling at one end. It is a BR Mark 3 model heavily remodelled, repainted and decorated by Silver Fox with the hopper windows added. It has all the detail including the additional passenger door behind the drivers door and the generator set detail under the floor. It has their “genuine bespoke model” certificate.
Postage – Postage has been slow here for the past few weeks. If you are in an hurry or have doubts about postage please use First Class or signed for. If you want to use couriers like FexEx or DHL let me know and I will work out a price for those.
If you buy more than one item which can be posted in a single parcel then I will only charge the rate for the entire single parcel. In the UK this may mean that two items go for the price of one. It is complicated because it depends what you buy and where it is going. So if you buy more than one item to be posted the same day WAIT FOR AN INVOICE FROM ME. The invoice will have the cheaper postage on it.
If I miss out the fact that you bought two but I can still get them in one parcel then I will refund the balance. I can miss these things, so feel free to remind me as soon as you buy multiple items.
