Hi! This auction is for one VERY RARE unbuilt HO scale resin locomotive kit. The main photo shows a kit after it has been built and painted.PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE AUCTION LISTING, SO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. This kit is “New Old Stock”. The kit is a Miracle Castings resin craftsman kit, of the Baldwin DR6-4-2000 (Shark, or Sharknose) six-axle diesel locomotive. These kits have been out of production for many years (since the 90’s), and this one is taken from my personal collection. Unfortunately I need the money more than I need the kit at this point. These locomotives were used by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), which had 18 “A” units, and 9 “B” units. In Pennsy nomenclature, they were referred to as “BP-20’s”, and were initially placed in passenger service. Later, some were used in freight service, in a standard PRR freight paint scheme.
The Model:
This model is classified as a craftsman kit, and is NOT recommended for beginning modelers. The model is supplied unbuilt, unpainted, and without paint, some detail parts, or decals. The buyer is responsible for supplying paint, decals, trainphone antennae, drive train components, couplers, etc.
All the items included with this model are shown in the photos, along with detailed instructions for every step. The quality of the shell casting is excellent, with no major flaws visible anywhere, and no warpage evident, either. As with all resin kits, there may be minor blemishes that require sanding or filling, but overall the shell and parts are excellent. I’ve checked the parts list for the kit, and all parts are present and included. The original box for this kit is not included, but the kit will be properly packaged for shipping.
The model is designed to be powered with an Athearn blue box Alco PA drive (just the motor, trucks, and connecting parts; not the frame). THESE ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE MODEL, but can easily be found at model railroad swap meets/sales. A resin frame is included which is designed to accept these parts, along with adapter parts to take into account the longer length of the frame. A resin fuel tank is supplied to attach to the bottom of the frame. This fuel tank has mounting holes for the Athearn nylon motor mounts to plug into, or alternately, the new plastic Athearn motor mounts using screws. A different motor could be used at the modelers discretion, and there’s plenty of room inside the shell for decoders and speakers. There are Soundtraxx Tsunami sound decoders available for Baldwin locomotives, so you can accurately add sound to these models if you want to spend the money. No decoders are included with this kit.
There are very few of these kits in existence, so if you want one, you shouldn’t wait! Feel free to ask any questions before bidding!
