Pair of scale buffers for LMS 3F Tank, incorrectly but familiarly known as a ‘Jinty’.
Buffer stocks are mild steel, heads stainless steel. Not included are springs which are a personal choice, or the drawbolt and nut (buffer head tapped 5BA for that).
Wooden packer is beech. Prototype was oak but that does not ‘scale’ well. Beech is much finer grained and, in this application, looks more like oak than real oak would.
The stocks are threaded 32 TPI; this allows the stocks to properly ‘bed down’ on the packers; therefore a buffer beam needs to be made up with an appropriate 32 TPI thread – probably 3/8″
I guess that the buffers are standard LMS patterns which would have been fitted to several other classes. Research required if a buyer is constructing a different locomotive class.
NOTE: Described as ‘new’ as never having been fitted to a locomotive; some storage soiling, easily cleaned up.
