This is a large chunky sturdy 0 gauge plastic battery powered track maintenance train set suitable for use by small children, but with adult appeal. There is a battery powered diesel outline loco, a crane wagon, and a flat car which carries a detachable digger and dump truck, each with moving parts. At the back is the coach for the maintenance crew. The crane can be swivelled and raised. Plenty of play value.Very good working condition. Comes with its own circle of plastic track, but will also run on other O gauge track, such as Hornby tinplate. I have also tried it on a short section of Tri-ang Big-Big Train track and it seems to run ok. Toy State made two versions of this train set. This is the 0 gauge version. The other is similar, but a little smaller and has non-standard track.Scale wise it’s similar to Big Big Train, and the battery powered loco runs well, controlled by a button on the roof (see photo), which lights up when the loco is running. Simple button control, making it suitable for quite young children to operate (press the button down once to start, and press it again to stop). It’s a good deal more reliable than Big Big Train locos!Could be a great way to start or build up a garden railway, or just to introduce younger children to model trains.For the adventurous adult, the loco’s bogies are detachable (one powered, one unpowered) and could be used for a project. The 4-wheel power unit within the motorised bogie can also be removed from its bogie casing and could similarly be used as a 4-wheel motorised chassis on its own (see photos).The loco requires three “C” cell batteries (not supplied). The bogie wagons have a curious bogie construction : each bogie has one real pair of wheels, the other pair being dummy, moulded into the bogie frame. This works well for younger children, making the wagons easier to put on the track and to couple / uncouple.
