DESIGN: Driving Trailers were introduced in 1988 to work with Mks 3 and 4 coach sets to enable trains to be driven from either end avoiding the necessity of the locomotive having to run around and thereby saving valuable time and effort. Almost all trains now operate on this principle, effectively enabling shuttle operations on long distance services. A total of 32 Mk 4 DVT’s operate with class 91 electric locomotives and rakes of Mk 4 coaches on the East Coast main line.
LIVERYThere was a further and final change of coach livery under British Rail. There was a further and final livery change of coach livery under British Rail in 1982 from blue and grey to one of the new sector liveries. Beige and grey or black with a red stripe became standard for Inter-City services.
