DETAILS OF THE ITEM
MANUFACTURER: Hornby
CODE: R2000 (Part of Train Pack)
TYPE: BR Mk 3
VEHICLE: Coach
CLASSIFICATION: TSO
RUNNING NUMBER: 42192
LIVERY: GNER Navy with Red Stripe
ERA: 9.Post-Privatisation (1995 – )
DESCRIPTION: This item appears to be in mint condition but unboxed having been split from the train pack R2000. It was made without buffers as it was intended to be used as part of an HST set, whereas the inclusion of buffers would allow it to be in a rake of locomotive-hauled Mk 2 and/or 3 coaches. The item in the pictures is the actual item you will receive. If there is more than one item they are considered to be identical for listing purposes. (Ref: 1514/1565/1571)
[Please note that the Hornby codes showing cannot in all cases be guaranteed to be the actual code and are sometimes given purely as a guide. You are advised to contact us if you have any concerns. IMPORTANT: All Hornby Mk 3 coaches listed are the more common shorter length unless specifically stated ‘Scale length’ and R439-0020 on their chassis is the code for a part – nothing at all to do with the manufacturer’s code for the coach as some sellers indicate.]
DESIGN: HST’s began replacing earlier Type 4 and Type 5 diesels on all principal non-electrified routes in the mid to late 1970’s. Forty years on, sets of eight Mk 3 coaches with a diesel power car at each end operate on all non-electrified main lines, Great Western, Midland Main Line and Cross Country, as well as services out of Euston and Kings Cross where only part of the route is electrified. Probably the most successful product of the diesel age, forecasts suggest they could be in service for another thirty years.
LIVERYNavy with a red stripe was the livery used by Sea Containers (as GNER), which had the first franchise for the East Coast main line in April 1996 until losing it to National Express East Coast in December 2007.
