These motors are now very hard to source…I think this will be my last batch of the thinner, 10mm motor.
This is not a kit as such it’s simply a motor and some gears. There’s no instructions. It’s clear where the motor has to go and the gears provided will mesh with the rest of the mechanism once you remove the original armature and magnet. Lima install will require the 8-tooth gear is trimmed from 5mm to 3mm.
These motors are recommended for DCC use as is, DC will require resistors/diodes if you need them to match other DC locos.
Thin 10mm motor for easy conversion of Lima Co-Co and Hornby tender drive/Co-CoThis is a budget pack of items that will save you some serious if you have a fleet to upgrade.PLEASE NOTE – these are components for a DIY install, it is NOT a drop-in “screw-driver only” kit like other, more expensive solutions. This is just the motor and two gears which you can use to upgrade nearly all Lima pancake motors, and some Hornby Ringfield.
This pack consists of:Brand new, 10mm, quiet can motor (DC operation unsupported – use with diodes if it runs too fast.)A choice of gears to cover the vast majority of Lima diesels or Hornby Ringfield 3 or 5 pole.Heat-shrink sleeving for your wiring joints. You will also need and be familiar with using a:
ScrewdriversSoldering ironSmall razor saw or similar (to trim the gear to fit Lima motor casing).Hornby Ringfield requires reaming toolEither high-temperature hot-glue gun (160 degree glue sticks recommended) or you could use silicon or epoxy. However the latter is difficult to remove, the former easy.
What locos will these motors fit?Best suited to Lima Co-Co and some others (08, 09, 31, 37, 40, 47, 52, 57, 59, 60) where the thicker, more common 12mm motor gets in the way of the centre axle. This motor can fit without having to perform destructive surgery on the motor casing.Note this motor is not as hardy as the 12mm version so you cannot run it for long periods and you should avoid adding more weight to your loco.Hornby Ringfield Co-Co and tender drive you are best to knock out the brass bearing, widen out the hole with a reamer wide enough for the collar of this motor.
I accept no liability for any damage or injury to yourself or your model occurring from the installation and use of these components. Users install at the risk of their own personal safety and that of their models. Not suitable for children due to small parts.
Check out my other items if you want an easy way to add a DCC socket and
directional LED lighting using standard screw terminal connectors.
