BR CLASS 86 86211 IN RAIL BLUE LIVERY

Here we have a Hornby Class 86 which I suspect started life in Rail Blue livery as 86219 “Phoenix”, but has been renamed and renumbered as 86211 “City of Milton Keynes”. The real 86211 was written off in the Colwich accident in 1986, along with 86429 “The Times”. 86211 was still in Rail Blue livery (despite what the table in the Wikipedia entry for the Class 86 says). No other locomotive has carried the name “City of Milton Keynes”, no doubt due to somebody pointing out to British Rail that the Buckinghamshire new town has in fact never actually been granted city status, contrary to popular belief!
The loco’s chassis is a 1980s one but it has been fitted with brass (but not sprung) buffers, as it came from a detailed “86” that now has a DCC chassis. The chassis with 86211 here is analogue and NOT DCC ready. There is only a cab interior at one end.
I don’t think the loco has been repainted, but the renumbering and renaming has been carried out fairly neatly (but not professionally). The nameplates are transfers rather than etched brass nameplates.
When tested on my short test track before writing this listing the loco ran very well. However, Hornby ringfield motors can unexpectedly start spitting cogs out when underused. It is not difficult to reassemble them in most cases, especially if you have a working example to use for reference. (This hasn’t happened, but I’m simply warning you that it in theory it might happen). A few squirts of WD40 might help prevent this from happening. The pantograph is fine and not damaged, but is not currently connected.
The outer cardboard box I believe to be the original, but it is quite worn and the large outer flaps are missing at each end.
So, not a mint Class 86, but one that is very usable and fairly neatly renumbered, and with improved buffers! Please only bid if you have read this listing in full!
