This is a brand new boxed limited edition model of a van which was left marooned for over twenty years inside the old Buxton Diesel Depot until it was demolished in 2016. By then this van was probably the last one of its type left on the national network. It is under restoration at Wirksworth on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, including lettering from a careful tracing of the original.
This particular wagon painted in BR Bauxite, which is as it was found, and is lettered To work between Buxtonand Longsight M & E Stores. Dapol have madean excellent reproduction of this in the correct font including the gaps caused by the stencil. Youmay need a magnifying glass to see this properly!It was presumably used to deliver parts and stores betweenLongsight and the depot at Buxton, but it had not been used on the main linefor many years when Buxton Depot closed in 1997, after which it was marooned inthe derelict shed. The demolition work required the creation of a temporary road access and we took the opportunity to buy and remove this vehicle for further use. All proceeds will go towards completion of the overhaul of Bagnall Austerity No.2746 The Duke at Wirksworth.The edition is limited to 180 wagons. This wagon comes with a certificate: No. 3 of 180.
