Brand New Kato N Penn Central 4-4-2 Sleeper “Imperial Trees” #4388

This is a brand new Kato N Scale Smooth Side Penn Central 4-4-2 Sleeper “Imperial Trees” #4388 from the Penn Central 4-Car Passenger Set. This 4-4-2 Sleeper passenger car isin excellent condition, having never been used. Includes the following: Rollinglow profile metal wheels and Kato knuckle couplers Shock absorber construction for smooth and reliableoperation 11″(282mm) minimum turning radius on ground level track, and 15″ (381mm)minimum turning radius on viaduct track Allpart details are included and pre-attached The sleeper ImperialTrees comes from a 4-car set, PennCentral 4-Car Passenger Set #106-3521. Kato’s originalprototype is an 85 ACF (American Car & Foundry) 4-4-2 sleeper car. A 4-4-2is made up of four compartments, four doublebedrooms, and two drawing rooms. Formed in 1968 from the Pennsylvaniaand New York Central Railroads, the Penn Central was a short lived railroadthat nonetheless paved the way for a government funded and operated railpassenger service (when it bankrupted in 1970 and left the densely populatednortheast without any form of reliable rail transportation) and was notable forits “mismatched” paint schemes (referred to by some as the”rainbow era” trains for the variety of colors) on its passengerequipment. The Imperial-series was built in twoparts. First, Pullman-Standard built 12 sleepers as part of theImperial-series, then ACF (American Car & Foundry) built the remaining 15sleepers. All 27 sleepers were of the same 4-4-2 configuration for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
