Bachmann catalogue number 31-827A is a model of a 43xx 2-6-0 tender locomotive. They were introduced in 1911 for the Great Western Railway and the last was withdrawn from British Railways service in 1964. The 43xx class was a development by Churchward of his 31xx large prairie tank locomotives, so that route availability and range were better than the 31xx but without compromising ability. They were useful mixed traffic locomotives and were used all over the GWR and Western Region networks. This example is modelled as number 4377 running under British Railways between 1957 and 1959, when it was withdrawn from service. The shed plate is 89C, which is Aberystwyth from where the original locomotive was withdrawn. The livery is in “pristine” lined green with late crest. The model is not quite up to the currently expected highly detailed standards. It does however have fine wire handrails on the locomotive, sprung buffers, separate smokebox door handle, front vacuum pipe and footplate lamp irons, separate reversing lever and some other separately fitted details on the tender. The detail pack includes the brake rodding and the vacuum pipe for the tender. It’s “Mainline” ancestry is evident in the non-adjustable plastic hook that connects the tender to the locomotive,The model is powered from the locomotive using a “can” motor mounted on a split die-cast metal chassis. Electrical pick-ups is from the locomotive only. It is not DCC ready and I suspect that fitting DCC to is would be best left to experienced modellersThis model is a good runner having been recently tested. It has seen some service on the Hamerton Junction layout at the Nene Valley Railway. It has been cared for and has always been stored in its box when not in use.I have set this as an auction item, so to be fair to all bidders, please don’t ask me for a “buy-it-now” price. As per usual on my items, there is no reserve and a low starting price. So, many thanks for looking and good luck with your bid.
