AIRFIX SCHOOLS FITTED TOCRAFTSMAN CHASSIS For sale is the Airfix Schools kit built locomotivefitted to the acclaimed Craftsman etched brass chassis of the 1970s. The modelbenefits from Romford wheels, etched brass numbers, nameplates (KingsWimbledon) shed plates and screw couplings. In addition to power pickup fromthe locomotive wheels additional pickup from the tender wheels has beenprovided; these are presently disconnected. The locomotive mounted motor is a 5pole X04 type. The model has lain idle for probably 15 years and would benefitfrom a thorough clean and re-oiling of the transmission, motion and chassis inaddition to the cleaning and oiling I have recently done to ensure that itstill works. The locomotive and tender carry wire handrails andthere is a small amount of added pipework to the locomotive to replace theplastic moulding of the kit. Both the locomotive and tender are ballasted; someballast is loose in the locomotive boiler and could be re-fixed during aclean-up. Some work will need to be done to the tender torestore a broken corner. I can find no other breakages, however, please lookcarefully at the photographs. The model is ready to run (it worked well on my rollingroad and length of straight track) but is an ideal candidate for theexperienced modeler or scratch builder to enhance. The Airfix kit is nowavailable from Dapol if a total rebuild was desired. The original Crafstman and Airfix instructions willbe included.
