BR CLASS 90 EWS LIVERY 90029 “INSTITUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERS”

Here we have a Hornby Class 90 in EWS livery numbered 90029 and named “Institution of Civil Engineers”. It is in superb, near-mint condition with no damage.
The loco’s chassis is a relatively recent one in so far as it as a Chinese example, not a Margate one. It was originally mated to EWS 90020, but it is not DCC ready. The Hornby EWS 90029 was, as far as I know, only available as part of the Charter Relief (“Pretendolino”) train pack, making this a rare opportunity! So, just to be clear, the chassis with 90029 here is analogue only and NOT DCC ready. The body clips onto the chassis. However, there is also a long screw that screws into the underside of the roof and is very difficult to screw back in. The screw is not in place but will be supplied in the box.
When tested on my short test track before writing this listing the loco ran very smoothly. However, Hornby Ringfield motors can unexpectedly start spitting cogs out if they have been underused. This has happened both to locos I have bought and locos I have sold. It is not difficult to reassemble the motor in most cases, especially if you have a working example to use for reference. (This hasn’t happened, but I’m simply warning you that it in theory it might happen). A few squirts of WD40 and a running session might help prevent this from happening. The pantograph is currently connected but untested. It is one of the better, metal Hornby high-speed pantographs, rather than their flimsy plastic ones.
The loco will be supplied in the box seen in the photos, which originally contained 90020 in EWS livery – so the only difference really is the name and number. The box is in excellent condition with only minimal wear.Please study the photos well as they form part of the description. The item shown is the one for sale.
