After the 2nd World war growing up in Britain one of the interests that captured childrens imagination, mainly boys, were the steam engines, engine sheds and the railway stations of British Railways, in the big cities. In those days, around 1948 to 1963, the engine drivers would let you up onto the footplate of all the famous steam engines in London, at Kings Cross, Euston, Waterloo, Liverpool St etc. Those were glorious memories of the past.
